A secure-by-default DevSecOps pipeline for drone management

A purpose-built DevSecOps pipeline with hardened baseline images and ATO-ready provenance bundles, so developers ship secure applications without owning the security process.

The terrain

DarkHive is modernizing how drones are managed, and its software has to be deployable into environments where security is not optional. For a fast-moving development team, that creates a tension: every hour spent hardening images, assembling evidence, and justifying an Authority to Operate (ATO) is an hour not spent building capability. Without a shared, secure foundation, each application carried that burden on its own.

The route

DataTrek designed and delivered a DevSecOps pipeline purpose-built for DarkHive’s ecosystem rather than a generic template. We applied industry best practices to harden the baseline container images every application starts from, so security is inherited by default instead of re-implemented per project. The pipeline then lets the team build and deploy secure applications instantly, with the hardening and checks baked into the path to production.

Alongside the pipeline, we produce comprehensive provenance bundles that document what was built, from what, and how. Those bundles are structured to support ATO justification directly, so the evidence accumulates as a by-product of normal delivery rather than as a separate scramble before accreditation.

The summit

DarkHive’s developers now focus on building capability while the pipeline carries the security process for them. New applications start from hardened images, ship through a secure path, and arrive with the provenance an accreditor expects to see.
